You accidentally ate gluten . . . now what?

Here are three easy steps to help you heal and repair your gut.

1. Drink water. Your daily goal is half your body weight in ounces. Monitor the color of your urine to identify adequate hydration. Your urine should be light yellow to clear. Please note, more is not always better. Excessive water consumption will not help you heal faster; in fact, it may cause other problems.

2. Consume bone broth daily. It’s best to consume about 4 ounces bone broth 20 minutes before meals to nourish the gut and provide a good source of amino acids and fats.These nutrients heal the gut and diminish inflammation. Bone broth is also a good source of electrolytes for those who experience diarrhea with gluten contamination.

3. Consume probiotic and prebiotic rich foods. Probiotics are healthy organisms that improve digestion. Prebiotics are the food sources for the healthy gut bugs. You can find probiotics in yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, fermented pickles, and tempeh. If you avoid dairy, choose a dairy free yogurt or kefir. You can find prebiotics in asparagus, garlic, onions, leeks, bananas, apples, gluten free oats, flaxseed, and seaweed.
