Are You Going Bananas?

May 2021 | Recipes

Does the month of February make you see hearts or does it make you go bananas? Bananas are the fruit of the month. This fruit is loaded with nutrition including fiber, natural sugars and potassium. Potassium and fiber are both valuable nutrients for heart health. Most people don’t think of their heart when they grab a banana. I think bananas are a popular fruit because it is a quick portable snack and it is incredibly affordable and accessible. It is important to note one serving of a banana is actually half of a medium banana. Share this sweet treat with a friend and pay it forward for the love of heart health.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy a banana.

1. Add to your baking recipe as a fat replacement for 1 cup of oil/butter: Start by adding ½ cup of banana (mashed) and fold into the batter. If the batter is dry, continue to add small amounts of mashed banana until the consistency is right. I have used this in brownies and cookie recipes.

2. Snack on it with your favorite nut or seed butter.

3. Freeze it and add to your smoothie recipe

4. Make banana ice cream. Yum! coconut-banana-ice-cream.pdf
